Adults Advance with ESL

Adult learners have unique needs, goals, and expectations.  All lessons begin by identifying each student’s language goals and individual learning style.  A written assessment of the student’s level of proficiency takes place at the initial lesson.  Personally selected books and learning resources are supplied at the second lesson.  Each lesson builds on previously mastered material, and is structured to directly relate to a student’s personal and professional goals.  A wide variety of customized tutoring strategies are used to maximize the effectiveness of each lesson.

Learning priorities are continuously reviewed, and adjustments are made as a student’s knowledge grows and deepens.  Consistent, measurable progress in speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing serves as the overall focus.  Each student is included in the lesson planning process, and the partnership between the student and teacher is continuously strengthened by timely communication and on-going feedback.

Class Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Grammar: Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced
  • Pronunciation and Accent Reduction
  • Business Concepts
  • Business Letters, Memos, and Email Correspondence
  • Business Vocabulary and Idioms
  • Presentation Skills
  • Conversational English
  • Ear and American Accent Training
  • Essential Everyday Idioms
  • Phrasal Verbs
  • Opinion Discussion Topics
  • Word Study

Progress is measured and documented by maintaining a formal, dated portfolio of all written assignments. At the final lesson, a personalized assessment is given, a Certificate of Completion is awarded, and a smooth transition follows as students prepare to fully use their newly acquired skills.
